Surface Finishing

Surface Finishing

Surface finishing can improve corrosion resistance, appearance, wear resistance, conductivity, or assembly performance. Please include finish requirements in the drawing or RFQ notes.

Common Finishing Options

  • Anodizing for aluminum parts
  • Zinc plating, nickel plating, chrome plating and other plating options
  • Black oxide, passivation, polishing, brushing, bead blasting, and cleaning
  • Heat treatment, hardening, and case hardening when required

For tight tolerance parts, finishing thickness and masking requirements should be confirmed before production.

Finish requirement review

Surface Finish Should Be Defined Before CNC Quotation

Surface finish affects machining time, inspection, visual acceptance, corrosion resistance, and packing method after machining.

Representative machined brass components for surface finish review

Finish availability and tolerance impact should be reviewed from the drawing and material.

Buyer Checks

  • State as-machined, anodizing, plating, black oxide, passivation, polishing, or other finish needs.
  • Mark cosmetic surfaces and surfaces that must remain burr-free.
  • Confirm whether masking, thread protection, or surface protection packing is required.

RFQ Details to Send

  • Send drawing notes for roughness, coating, or color requirements.
  • Include sample photos if you need a similar appearance.
  • Confirm inspection and acceptance criteria before production.
